The future of video – think “eyes” not “iPhones”

At Rose Optometrists we’re passionate about developments in the eyewear space – from new procedures, new contact lens technologies, we love anything that can help restore sight. Some of the more exciting things we’ve covered include a Swiss prototype that lets you zoom in with a wink and graphene based contact lenses that give you night vision.

Recently Sony has filed a patent for a set of smart contact lenses that let you record, store and play-back video, all controlled through various eyelid movements. These videos can then be sent to a wireless device such as a smartphone, tablet or computer. The patent also mentions zoom, focus and aperture adjustments as features, meaning any photos and videos taken with the contacts will probably look pretty good.

While it’s still early days, it’s exciting to see all the changes happening in this space, with Google and Samsung also getting filing multiple patents around contact lenses in the past few years, we’re looking forward to an exciting future!
